"'Chronicle' was the first and remains the only locally produced nightly television newsmagazine in the country. Its programs present a mix of fast-breaking local, national, and international stories, as well as informative feature reports on the people, places, and events of New England, United States, and the world.
Each weeknight, from 7:30 to 8pm, 'Chronicle' focuses on one topic. The subject material varies from politics and economics to the media, art and sports. 'Chronicle' has presented hard-hitting reports on drunk driving, child abuse, and teenage drug problems.
In addition to the composite, WCVB is submitting two 'Chronicle' programs which we believe exemplify the [breadth] and depth of the nightly newsmagazine. 'Homeboys: A Generation At Risk' examines the plight of young Black males who live in one of Boston's most troubled neighborhoods, and 'The Doyles' is the touching story of one family torn apart by homelessness. Each of these programs reflects, in a sensitive manner, some of the greatest challenges of our time.

This program uses interviews with two psychologists, Dr. Jeanne Taylor and Dr. Eugene Givens, and residents of Boston's black neighborhoods in an attempt to find solutions to the problem of young black males being the victims of, or the perpetrators of violent and drug-related crimes in these neighborhoods. The program includes a discussion of some of the contributing factors of the problem, including high unemployment, poverty, easy money from drug dealing, gangs, racism, and the lack of influence of father figures and positive, successful black role models. Included is an excerpt from a speech by Rev. Bruce Wall.
