Summary

In this episode, Dr. Llewellyn Cornelius uncovers a relatively unknown strategy in the political struggle surrounding the minimum wage. While many cities and U.S. Territories are trying to push for an increase to a "living wage,"some opponents in the US Congress have introduced a "slippery slope"provision to proposed legislation that would authorize the deregulation of the minimum wage for states, cities and territories that are in financial crisis.

In Puerto Rico, for instance, these provisions would suspend the minimum wage and waive overtime rules in certain areas in order to lower unemployment rates. Dr. Cornelius discusses the pros and cons of these proposed policies and whether or not they could ultimately have an even worse impact on unemployment if enacted.
