In this animation, Russell Library intern Sarah Northrop
dramatizes the rapid spread of the fire ant across the South and the largely
unsuccessful efforts of farmers and communities to halt its advance. Capable of
delivering a powerful sting, fire ants can injure both animals and people. The
story of the fire ant is part of the
Russell Library exhibit, At War with Nature: The Battle to Control
Pests in Georgia's Forests, Fields and Front Yards
