This webinar will be an introduction to digital preservation, providing an overview of basic concepts and considerations for institutions just starting out with digital preservation or looking to enhance their efforts. Structured using the six modules of digital preservation as developed by the Library of Congress' Digital Preservation Outreach and Education program, this workshop will walk through how to:
* Identify . . . the types of digital content you have.
* Select . . . what portion of your digital content will be preserved.
* Store . . . your selected content for the long term.
* Protect . . . your content from everyday threats and emergency contingencies.
* Manage . . . and implement requirements for long term management.
* Provide . . . access to digital content over time.
From identifying and selecting materials for preservation to storage concerns and considerations for long-term management, this session will discuss digital preservation basics and how to improve the sustainability of cultural heritage materials.
Elizabeth La Beaud is the Digital Lab Manager for the University of Southern Mississippi and the Assistant Director of the Mississippi Digital Library. She holds a MLIS, a certificate in Archives and Special Collections, the Digital Archives Specialist certificate from the Society of American Archivists, and is a Library of Congress trained Digital Preservation Topical Trainer. She is currently serving on the National Digital Stewardship Alliance’s (NDSA) Levels of Digital Preservation Revision Subgroup and the Levels of Digital Preservation Implementation Subgroup. Elizabeth specializes in digital preservation, project planning and implementation, and copyright as it pertains to digital collections.
